The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office today filed a felony gross vehicular manslaughter charge against a 20-year-old Santa Clara man suspected of driving drunk on Interstate Highway 880 in San Jose on Sunday and causing a crash that killed a 21-year-old woman.
Ray Salinas was arraigned this afternoon on one count of felony gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of San Jose resident Amy Luong.
Salinas allegedly drove a Chevrolet Malibu the wrong way on the highway and crashed head-on into Luong’s Honda Civic around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Paramedics pronounced Luong dead at the scene.
Salinas was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with a broken left elbow, dislocated hip and abdominal injuries.
His blood-alcohol content was more than 0.15 percent, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lisa McCrary. It is illegal to drive with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more.
