Salinas police arrested a man Sunday for allegedly assaulting another man and driving under the influence.
Officers received a report of a stabbing at about 12:40 a.m. in the 500 block of Leslie Drive.
Arriving officers found a 32-year-old victim who said he had been at a party on Mohar Street with the suspect, identified as Jose Mendoza, during which an argument sparked between Mendoza and his girlfriend.
The victim said he convinced Mendoza to leave the home and the two headed to another home on Leslie Drive. At that location, the victim said Mendoza stabbed him in the left hand with a pocketknife and then attempted to stab him in the stomach while he was opening the door, according to police.
Officers said the victim then went inside and called police.
Officers spotted Mendoza nearby in his car and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence and unlicensed. Mendoza was booked into Monterey County Jail.
The victim’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening, police said.
